Saint John’s Cathedral is an Episcopal community in Denver.

complete a welcome card

Saint John’s Cathedral exists as a house of prayer for the Episcopal Church in Colorado and the people of metropolitan Denver.

Through the union of Word, Sacrament, and music, we share the loving presence of God in Christ with all who enter our doors. Our beliefs about God, meaning, and love are best experienced in the ancient liturgies we pray and sing week in and week out. Join us as we strive to follow Jesus Christ in faithful and creative ways.

About Worship

Parking

Our location in the Capitol Hill neighborhood means it’s often hard to find street parking, but we have a number of parking lots available to visitors and members on Sunday mornings and for special events.

Argonaut: 760 E Colfax Avenue

Please park only on the south side, where there are signs for Saint John’s Cathedral parking. You do not need to pay or register your vehicle in order to utilize these spots.

Morey Middle School: 840 E 14th Avenue
Please enter from Emerson Street and park only on the east side of the lot; a small lot is also available on the east side of Emerson Street. Parking is available on Sundays and after school hours for special events when the cathedral is open and has unlocked the lot gates, including Cathedral Night.

We welcome all into our community.

Saint John’s Cathedral is a community in which we encourage people to grow and learn in their faith, challenge people to engage in ministry, and ask people to give generously with their time, money, and expertise. At the cathedral, we believe you’ll find people with varying interests, skills, backgrounds, that will enrich your life as you continue on your faith journey.

What To Expect

FAQs for Newcomers

  • What can I expect at an Episcopal service?

This is a time to connect with God and community. The flow of the service is designed to invite us to reflect, pray, be together, and be renewed for the work of our lives.

Our tradition is liturgical – we use elements like vestments, incense, and holy water during each of the services. These items serve to engage all of our senses during worship. We love a script. The leaflet provides all the information you need for the service. Bolded words are said by the entire congregation. The words in red will tell you when to sit, stand, kneel, or bow. You may see additional movements, such as people crossing themselves, or bowing at the cross, altar, or Gospel book. These are signs of one’s own faith, and it’s up to you whether you incorporate them into your worship.

If you are new to the Episcopal Church, please relax and don’t worry too much about doing the “right thing.” It is most important for you to feel comfortable and enjoy the service.

If you’d like to learn more about the Episcopal Church in general, visit our denomination’s website.
